Plauge Toads Counts as Spawn with Mark of Nurgle

I loved these toads as soon as I saw them.  So cute and cuddly.  The make excellent spawn of chaos with the mark of nurgle. They are a joy to paint and have so much character.

One of My Favorite Traitor Guard Units

This is one of my favorite units.  The bits go together so well.  The arms and legs are from Victoria Lamb and the torsos are, of course, FW.  They are not complex by the Vic bits look so good with the FW bits.  The arms and legs are from the Penal Legion squad so they have shackles around their hands and feet, chains dangling from them, some are missing their shoes, etc.  I'm not sure why I painted them completely different from every other unit.  I guess just to be different.

30k MKIII Iron Hands and Legio Cybernetica Thallax

After painting Necrons exclusively for quite a while I decided a need to switch gears.  I had an Iron Hands army sitting on a shelf that I've had for 10-12 years but I really hate painting marines.  All the broad flat areas just make it really boring and tedious to me.  However, the new forge world marines look pretty nice and with all the detail I thought I could probably enjoy painting them.  So I decided to sell my old Iron Hands army and build a new Iron Hands army.  My brother mocked me quite a bit for that. :)  I'm adding a contingent of Legio Cybernetica to the the force as well.  The models are just too nice to pass up and they fit in nicely with the fluff of the Iron Hands as well.

I don't care for painting black so I opted for a blue/grey base color.  I finished the test model for the Marines and got started on the test model for the Legio Cybernetica.

Necron Acanthrites

I really like these models.  Mine are slightly miscast which I didn't notice until I was already half way done painting them.  So I just carried on.  I dont really think they are that good on the table but I love the way they. I like running them with my destroyer lord so that he doesn't get scared and run away like usual.

Necron Tomb Stalker

Finished the Tomb Stalker.  What a pain this model was to assemble, especially trying to get the legs to look right crawling over some rubble.  The base still needs to be painted but I will probably do that with an airbrush at a later date.

Necron Tesseract Ark completed

Finally got this model finished up after a brief distraction called Shadowrun Returns.  Now Space Hulk is out.  I'm trying to resist it so I can keep plugging away at the necrons.

I still need to make a stand for it, just not sure how I'm going to do it yet.

Necron Tomb Stalker assembly in progress

I wanted to do something for the base of the Tomb Stalker but didn't have any old tau or space marine land speeder to use so I just opted for a base where the Tomb Stalker is scurrying over a ruined wall.  A great feature of this base is that I can always claim a cover save!  Just kidding of course.

Necron Tesseract Ark - painting in progress

I've found that its much easier to paint the necrons before they are fully assembled so that's what I'm doing here.  I put as much of it together as I can with respect to which pieces will be which colours.  Then I get them painted and then do final assembly.  Its a good way to keep myself motivated to finish them so I can actually use the models. :)

Adding some chaos Spawn

I've been wanting to get some chaos spawn but I dont like the current models much.  I've decided to use the FW Plague Toads.  They are a good size and look like they would move like beasts and they look nice and disgusting.  I'm pretty happy with the models and how they fit in, especially with the Death guard army.

more Veteran Chaos Renegades

I love the rag tag look of the regular militia troopers but I also want some more hardcore militarized troops as well.  I've already painted one unit of these guys up but I built a total of 50 of them.  3 units with 2 x melta, flamer and shotguns and 2 units with 3 plasma guns.  They are meant to represent the Blood Pact in a way but not directly.

This unit has some Victoria Lamb bits.  I've used her Shotgun arms and some of the Beastmen Trench Raider arms.  I think they turned out pretty nice and give them a different look.

This unit is primarily using the Catachan arms.  Which I dont like but the enforcers are big enough that they dont look too horrible.  SGTs have regular enforcer arms.

Did a bit of airbrushing...

I have not touched a paint brush since the first of the year sadly.  However, this past weekend I was able to break out the airbrush and get a little work done a few new models.

First off the Decimator.  I love the model, the legs are a bit of a pain to get positioned right but worth the hassle.

Next up was the Hell Talon/Blade.  I can never remember which is which....

Then finally is the ork fighta.   I know blue is not the traditional color of the ork fightas but I wanted something different and I was tired of painting red.  Plus all my ork vehicles are blue so it fits.

After doing several layers and getting the colors the way I wanted them I went back and sealed them with a satin coat.  This will keep other inks, washes and glazes from distorting the final air brush color.  The air brush paint can be porous which can sometimes adsorb the washes and distort the end result.

I actually did a few other items as well but didn't get them completed.  So still on the air brush work bench are 2 triarch stalkers, 3 acenthrites, 1 squiggoth, 9 penal legion, and 1 test marine, iron hands.

Astronomi-con report.

Played in Astronomi-con this past weekend in Dallas. Had a great time. Great armies, great terrain and terrific missions. My little grots did very well for themselves racking up 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. Much better than I would have guessed. But what’s even better is I won best army! That's very cool as I put a lot of work into this army.

Game one was against Kenny and his bugs. The game was very fun and my warboss and cyborks were able to hold off a hoard of genesteelers, a hive tyrant and some gaunts; I'm not sure how they did it other than pure luck. The grot fighta was blasted out of the sky taking 18 wounds from the 3 shooty carnifex. win

Game two was against Will and his Salamanders. This was a pretty close game for both of us up until the end. Highlight was my grot tanks blasting a tactical squad and getting 37 wounds! Somehow against the odds the sarg, flamer and missile launcher survived unscathed! win

Game three was against Mr. Busy (can’t remember first name, sorry). He was using a nice dark eldar army and a great game. The game was on a city fight board with lots of terrain and difficult terrain. Despite having to make loads of dangerous terrain checks he suffered very little for it. The orks and grots were jammed up on the small roads. The grot mega tank was destroyed blocking the majority of one road but the little grot tanks managed to squeeze by and blast into the Duke and his squad routing them from the table. Win

Game four was against David Caldwell and his grey knights on the x-faxtor table. This table made everything difficult and reduced range to 12" anything over 12" needed 6 to hit. In addition there was a Vindicar assassin in a tall central tower. At the beginning of each game turn we rolled off and the winner got to control him that turn. I was able to take out a psycannon and thunder hammer with his help. The lack of range really hurt the grey knights and didn't affect me quit as much since I needed 4s and 5s to hit anyway. It was a close game with my warboss being insta-killed and my nobs squad being whittled down from mass fire. Game ended in a draw.

Game 5 was against Brian Ellis and his Slaanesh Chaos Marine army. This table was really tough; the entire center of the board was dangerous terrain. Only safe spots were 6" on the edge. With my unit of walkers and tanks I was fearful of driving in there because being immobilized would get them killed. Despite repeated shots and the two deflers I was unable to do anything other than immobilize one which I'm sure Brian would done anyway since his entire army was immobilized by the end of the game. :) They pie plates kept falling, the BW was destroyed and the warboss and nobs pinned and then shot to pieces. The warboss died to dangerous terrain trying to charge one of the two daemon princes. Very tough game and I got my butt kicked well. loss

Game six was against Ernest and his khorne army. The mission was fun, we had to clear buildings by enter a troops choice on foot into the building. Once it’s cleared it’s yours unless an enemy enters it, then its there’s. The berzerkers took a beating due to me popping the rhinos early and them having to walk across the board under heavy fire. Massed fire at the termies whittled them down and my dread finished off one unit and the lords unit was eventually shot to pieces. Very fun game but also very brutal, much like game five only in reverse.

Over all it was a great event and a blast was had by all.

So here is an army pic minus the grot fighta because I forgot it.

Best of all I was awarded the Best Army for my orks/grots. It very cool to get such an awesome trophy, I'm very excited about it! I can't wait for next year.
